First Post 2.0 – Older, Wiser, Still Wordy :)

Once upon a time—years ago—I wrote my very first blog post. It was titled (rather straightforwardly) “My First Blog.” It spoke about who I was, why I was starting to write, what you could expect from me, and the kind of things that tugged at my curiosity.

But today, when I was sharing my blog’s homepage with someone who wanted to subscribe, I had a mini heart attack—I realized the entire content of that first post had vanished. Gone. Poof. No draft, no backup. Just an empty shell of what once held all that naïve excitement and hope of the “new blogger me.”

And that stung more than I expected.

Because in losing that post, it felt like I lost a small but precious part of the old me—the one who had stepped into this space with wide-eyed wonder and a whirlwind of thoughts. And while I can’t recreate that exact version of me… I can try to honour her.

So here I am. A more evolved version of Jo. Someone who has walked through highs and lows, made mistakes, learned things the hard way, and gathered a few stories (and some wisdom!) along the way. Some of those stories live here, on this blog.

Why did I start this blog in the first place?
Partly, for my future self.
To remember.
To read back and reflect—especially on days when I feel lost or unsure. Because sometimes, we need to listen to our own words when no one else’s seems to make sense.

And partly, because I love words. I love stories. I love how writing helps me process everything that’s happening to me and around me. Whether it’s people, books, psychology, conversations, chaos, or quiet moments—putting it all into words brings clarity, meaning, and sometimes even peace. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats—software professional, educator, academic head, technical book author, life skills trainer, lay counselor, home librarian, mother… and a dozen other beautiful (and exhausting!) roles we all find ourselves in. Through this space, I try to weave together those threads—my experiences, learnings, and reflections—into something that makes sense to me.

And if it helps me, maybe it helps you too. That’s the hope.

As someone who plays the role of a Lay Counselor in my circle, I care deeply about mental health—mine, and that of those I hold dear. Through this blog, I continue to explore what we can do to nurture our wellbeing, grow in awareness, and support each other through life’s messiness.

But more than anything…
I hope you enjoy reading these posts.
I hope you find something in here that speaks to you, makes you smile, or helps you feel a little less alone.
Take what you need, and leave the rest. That’s all I ask.

Happy reading,
Jo
